Should graffiti be considered "Outsider Art"

The issue with this for me, is that there are also many taggers that
do consider themselves artists (see above photograph). So how do we categorize all of this? Art is subjective, of course, and there is never a right or wrong answer to whether something can be considered art or not, but how to categorize a subculture with so many different intentions?! You hear it all the time "Art or Vandalism?" Well, call me crazy, but what about considering the fact that it is BOTH. While the tag in photograph at the top seems amateur and mindless (to me at least) it does not mean that someone did not put thought into it and considers it a piece of art work.

Also, what about taggers who do not intend to create art, but only to vandalize for the thrill and the territorial aspect of it. What if I see a tag, and it is made by someone like this (without artistic intention) but I think it's amazing and inspiring. Is this now art? was it always? My head is spinning. How about you? I guess it can be said that just because someone does not set out with the intention of creating art doesn't mean that their end product cannot be considered art to someone else.

Graffiti Art by Missy Ramsey

When I saw graffiti art, I absolutly loved how it was so different then what I even expected it was suppose to be. I actually thought that graffiti art was going to be these gangs that draw on the walls of buildings, but the fact that people give out their wall space for artist to paint on makes me think that everything you see out there today is a canvas and can be made into one. When you think of graffiti art, its hard not to automatically assume that you are illegal drawing on the walls of buildings, but rather with graffiti actually legalized, it makes you realize what you can do once you become an actual artist, and if you have the desire to draw or paint on walls, then become and artisst and you will get paid to do it!
